What are the types of logs, and how to use them for troubleshooting?

MOBILedit Forensic is a forensic software tool, and it is necessary to protect the privacy of our customers with regards to any potentially sensitive content obtained during the acquisition of data from mobile devices. You will find different types of logs in MOBILedit Forensic that can help troubleshoot any potential issues with the software. These are explained below, and we have also stated which logs contain sensitive data or personal information or not.

If you should get any software issues with MOBILedit forensic, you will need to identify the logs to help us investigate further, and you may need to share the logs with the support team for further assistance. Of course, this depends on whether the logs contain personal or sensitive information.

We want MOBILedit Forensic to serve you well and are keen to know if you do have any software issues. Please don't hesitate to send us your logs if you encounter any problems.

If the incident is reproducible, we recommend deleting all logs, running the program again and setting them in Settings in the Logging to Debug section and 40,000 KB to obtain fresh and detailed logs.

MOBILedit Forensic Application Logs

MOBILedit Forensic Application logs store information about how the application runs and possible errors, which are stored in the main.log file located in “Documents/MOBILedit Forensic/Logs”.

The MOBILedit Forensic log and Crash dump file do not contain any personal information or sensitive data about the connected device.

Communication logs

In this type of log, there is information about the communication between the mobile device and MOBILedit Forensic. These are located in “Documents/MOBILedit Forensic/Logs”.

The communication log may contain sensitive data from the device.

Extraction logs

The extraction log describes the process during extraction.

The main log of the extraction process is located in the export folder and the filename is, summary_full.txt. It contains information about extracted files and everything else you can see on the screen during the extraction process during the report generation.

The summary of extracted items and what has failed during the extraction process, if there were failures, is in the summary_short.txt file.

Screenshots of report settings are located in the export folder at “phone_files/wizard_screenshots”.

The MOBILedit Forensic Extraction logs do not contain any personal information or sensitive data about the connected device.
